Wallingford Regatta

Wallingford regatta was held last Sunday 6th May at Eton's multi lane course at Dorney over a distance of 1500 metres.

Henley Rowing Clubs senior men entered eight events with Ian Pankhurst's Junior boys entering J15 Quad sculls where they came a good third in the final.

The Elite 8's was a straight final with Leander winning with Henley 'B' second. Henley 'A' scratched due to illness preventing a full crew.

Henley then had a very close race with Leander in Elite Coxed Fours losing by just a few feet to come second in the final in a fast time of 4.48.05 to Leander at 4.47.44

In Senior 2 Coxed Fours Henley again came second in 4.49.90 behind a very good Abingdon School crew who won in 4.48.96. To give an idea of how fast these times were, they were just outside the winning times for the Elite fours!

Henley's senior men did however have success on the day winning both Senior 1 Double Sculls and Senior 1 Pairs.

Coach and club captain Ian Desmond said he was very pleased with the overall performance of the squad considering it is the first time they have raced since the autumn on account of the cancellations of so many races during the winter due to adverse river conditions. He went on to say that all crews would get considerably faster over the next few weeks in the count down to Henley Royal Regatta.
