HAMPTON FOURS & EIGHTS HEAD
Henley Rowing Club had its first win of 2007 at the Hampton School Fours and Eights head which took place last Saturday. Henley's Womens Junior 15 Coxed Quad won their category, which had a large entry, in 9.33.9 beating Lady Eleanor Hollis School by the narrowest of margins, one tenth of a second. It was an important and satisfying win for the Henley girls in that not only was LEH on home territory, they share the same boathouse with Hampton School, but it was the same LEH crew that beat Henley twice last summer by the slimest of margins each time. The coach singled out Sara-Lee in particular for steering an excellent line through the two large bends over the 3000 metre course. Henley had two other crews taking part, a WJ 14 Coxed Quad that came a very good second behind Walton RC out of seven crews in the category. This was a particularly good result as illness in the crew had meant some substitutions in the boat, including the stroke. Meanwhile the Junior 14 boys found themselves out of category in J15 Quads rather than J14 but still managed a creditable 5th place out of the eight crews.
