GB Vs France Match

The last few weeks have been very hectic but also very successful for the Henley Rowing Club Junior Girls squad. Immediately after the Royal Regatta eight of the girls took part in trials for the Great Britain vs France match the trials where held on the multi lane course at the National Water Sports Centre Nottingham. Chantal Cummings, Jenny Arnold, Emily Derrig and Pippa Whittaker where selected as the quad after comfortably winning their trials. Alice Skinner, Raffie Varley, Kate Chapman and Orla Millar where selected along with four girls from Dame Alice Harpur School in Bedford to make up the eight, the four Henley girls had some very tight races through out the trials which culminated in them having a late night race off against a composite crew from Maidstone and St Neots which the Henley girls won by half a length. Following the trials a three day training camp was held in St Valerey France and this was followed by the match. The match for both boys and girls was held over a 1500 metre two lane course just outside St Valery. Both the quad and the eight won their races with both boats having to come from behind the quad having a very tight first half but going on to win by over a length and the eight in a very tight finish winning by just half a length. These wins where part of a strong British performance that saw the British team winning the match eight races to four.
