Bedford Small Boats Head Bedford is one of last long distance Head races the girls notched up five wins. This last weekend the Club had five girls and four boys representing the region at the inter regional regatta and they notched up Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. At 2000metres Bedford is significantly shorter as a head race than the 41/4 miles of the major London Head races but is a good precursor to the regatta season where the races are over 1500 to 2000 metres. Perhaps the best result at Bedford was the Women's Junior coxed four of Becci Griffiths, Caitlin Bennett, Lucy Lewington, Hannah Read and cox Raffie Varley. The girls not only won their category 12 secs clear of St Neots but where also the fastest woman's coxed four on the day. This looks very promising for the coming season where this crew will be looking achieve medals at the National Schools and a place in the finals at Henley Women's regatta. Later in the day this crew split into pairs and Becci and Caitlin won the Women's Junior pairs. Another girls coxed four to win was the crew of Natasha Richardson, Hannah Blair, Amanda Moore, Natalie McIntosh and cox Raffie Varley who won the Women's Senior 4 event. The J15 squad of Raffie Varley, Orla Millar, Ellen Anthony, Jenny Arnold and Emily Derrig picked up two pots between them winning the J15 coxed quads with Orla in the coxs seat and the Senior Women's Novice Coxless quads with Raffie dropping out of the crew and Orla taking over as bow steer |
