Henley Rowing Club where the organisers of this weekends successful Henley Fours and Eights Head and winners of four events. Due to the strong stream and strong cross head wind younger and novice crews had to be excluded from the race and the course had to be slightly shortened at the start to provide a safer marshalling area. Despite the limitations 150 crews still raced over the course from above Hambledon Lock to the Henley Royal Regatta finish. In the first division the Henley Rowing Club men's coxless four of Rob Coombes, David Read, John Hasell and Richard Guiver not only won the Senior 2 pennant but where also the fastest overall crew. In the second division Rob Wilson, Aled Jones, Ian Cassels, Steve Brown and cox Louise Lothian won the senior 2 coxed fours pennant. Also competing in this division were the Henley Junior Girls crew of Caroline Green, Natalie McIntosh, Hannah Read and Becky Griffiths who beat a number of local rivals to win the girls J18 quad event. In the third division for eights the two men's crews joined forces to win the senior 2 eights pennant and finish third overall behind the higher category senior 1 crews from Star & Arrow (Leander) and Oxford Brookes, but where well ahead of a number of the other senior 1 crews. Also competing in the eights event was a Henley Rowing Club women's Senior 3 crew being a composite of junior girls and senior women. This crew did exceptionally well finishing third behind two Oxford University blue boats. Both the men and women's eights are in training for the forthcoming London eights heads and on these performances the crews will be looking to achieve good placing in these major events.
