Inter Regional Trials

On Sunday the Under 16 and under 15 girls took part in trials to represent Thames West in the Inter-Regional Regatta to be held at the National Rowing Course in Nottingham in April. Thames West is a particularly strong Region and in recent year has only lost the Inter Regional regatta once. The region includes such top clubs as Marlow, Reading, Molesey and Lady Eleanor Holles. The trials where held at the Eton Rowing Lake Dorney and where done in the form of a small head race with the crews being timed over a 1000metre course. The first crews to race where the Quads with Henley having two under 15 quads and an under 16 quad entered. The J15 quad of Becci Griffiths , Kaye Davies, Hannah Read, Lucy Lewington and cox Nicola Johnson won their division extracting revenge on Sir William Borlase who had beaten them the previous week at the schools head and also beating most of the J16 Coxless quads. The one J16 boat they did not beat was the Henley crew of Hannah Boyd, Gemma McIntosh Kate Osborn Jones and Melanie Gilson who also won their group beating Reading into second place who where well clear of third placed Molesey. Becci Varley and Amanda Moor competed in the J16 and J14 single sculls trials, both girls sculled well but where unable to gain the coveted first place. Jemma Johnson and Natalie Robinson then jumped into a double scull to try for selection as the J15 girls double. Despite being the first time that the girls had doubled together they put in an outstanding performance and even on this relatively short course passed two other crews to take first place.

As a result the Henley Girls will be representing Thames West in Under16 quads, Under 15 Quads, Under 15 Double Sculls and have also been asked to provide the Under 16 coxless 4.
