2005 BOATHOUSE DEVELOPMENT

The benefits of the proposed development are as follows:

  • Dedicated indoor training space to accommodate the ever increasing active membership, eliminating the current potentially dangerous conflict between the training needs of elite level and very young junior rowers.
  • Additional boat storage space: sufficient for 5 fours and 14 sculling boats.
  • The release of the existing Functions Room for lettings and non-weight training.  This will allow us to make the room more attractive for lettings.
  • Improved changing facilities for both sexes, with more spacious accommodation for women.

We are fortunate to have been offered cost price construction works by TFD Midlands Ltd through the good offices of club member Ben Krauze.  In order to take advantage of this generous offer and have the development completed in time for the start of winter training in the autumn, we need to commit ourselves by the end of May in time for a start on site immediately after the Royal Regatta.

Sport England and have advised us that there is effectively no money for ours or other similar projects.  The days of readily available Lottery money are long gone, so we have to look to ourselves to raise the money from within the Club and from local authorities and commercial companies.

We have some money in club funds but we need to raise at least another £75,000 to complete the development fully.  I say “at least” because we do not think it would be prudent to empty the Club’s coffers completely.

This development has been an important part of the Club’s Three Year Plan for several years.  We now have an opportunity to get the job done and provide our rowers with facilities that will be the equal of any other club in the country.  In order to achieve this, we need all members to help.  Please contribute what you can, by sending in your donation.  We are determined to at least complete the new training facilities in time for the autumn, so there is no question of your donation not being effectively utilised.

Additionally, if you think you know of an individual or a commercial organisation who you think would be willing to help, please contact the Club Chairman

The Club belongs to all of us and it is one of the most successful in the Country at all levels.  Please dig deep to help it do even better in the future.
