Squads

Senior Men

The Men's squad is one of the most successful club squads in the country with wins at all the major regattas including Henley Royal Regatta. The squad trains on the river every weekend, Saturday and Sunday training sessions starting at 8am, and on weekday evenings in the spring and summer. During the winter, weekday training , ergos and weights takes place in the clubs training room and starts from 6:30pm an aerobic session is run at the local schools gym from 7:30 one night usual Thursdays. The Club enters most of the major head races that take place between October and April, and can be seen competing at the main regattas throughout the country. Senior Women

The Women's squad has had an influx of new members and the squad has a good mix of novices and experienced oarswomen now training together which shows promise for the coming season. The training times for the women are the same as the men 8am Saturday and Sunday mornings and Monday to Thursday evenings during the week (Tuesdays and Thursdays being the best attended). Veterans

In keeping with many other clubs Henley has a large contingent of veteran oarsmen ranging in experience from novices to top class. Pat Ward and Karol Braun having won gold medals at FISA Masters events more times than can be remembered. Some of the younger veterans Rob Wilson and Roger Stephens being able to give most of the senior mens squad a good run for their money.

Junior Men

The Club has always had a number of Junior Men but this section has really taken off in the last two years, and now forms a significant part of our activities, and success.All age groups are catered for with a beginners session on Saturday and Sunday morning. 

The success of the boys can be seen by the medals the boys have won at both international regattas and the top national regattas over recent years including the Fawley Cup at Henley Royal Regatta in 2003 and 2007.

Junior Women

The Club is seen as a centre of excellence for junior girls rowing with many girls over the years being selected to row or scull for England and/or Great Britain.  All age groups and abilities are catered for with a beginners session at 10am on Saturday and Sunday mornings coached by Dave Scivier. The more experienced J14s (and younger) to J18 are coached by Chris Boothroyd 01189 724042, or e-mail Chris. Boothroyd@henleyrowingclub.org. Training sessions for the girls are 7:30am to 10:30 Saturday (12:30 for those going for selection) 7:30am to 12:30 Sundays and land  training during the week  (ergos and weight circuits) 7pm Monday to Thursdays, with the recommended number of sessions for each age group being J14s two, J15s three, others four.

Project Oarsome

Henley Rowing Club is very pleased to have been chosen, along with a number of other clubs  to participate in Project Oarsome. The Junior Coordinator in Henley Rowing Club for Project Oarsome is Dave Scivier Home Tel 0118 966 5306, Work 0118 963 5000, e-mail Dave Scivier@COMPUSERVE.COM

Under the scheme Clubs are linked  to state schools, Henley is linked with Wargrave Piggot School. The aim is to increase participation and junior membership and significantly increase qualified coaches working with young people. Funding is shared between  the Clubs and the ARA who have recived funds from the Lottery and donations from Henley Stewards Charitable Trust. The costs involved are significant with each Club receiving  boats, oars, rowing machines and safety equipment to a value of between £42,000 and £50,000.  The first stages of the project are aimed specificaly at 11 to 14 year olds
